Visiting Scholars/Researchers Program in Systems Biology at UC Irvine
The University of California, Irvine has initiated a Visiting Scholars/Researchers Program in Systems Biology to begin in 2008. This new program is made possible by the recent major award of support for an NIH- NIGMS P50 National Center for Systems Biology focusing on how biological systems in model organisms process spatial information during development, intracellular signaling, and cell proliferation. Winners of 2008-2009 GK-12 Program at the MSP School of Biological Science Announced

Congratulations to Kandarp Shah and Lamar Blackwell, who have been selected to be supported by the 2008-2009 GK-12 Program at the MSP School of Biological Science. This initiative is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and its goal is to bring innovation to graduate and K-12 education by integrating investigation and experimentation conducted by UCI faculty and graduate students with teaching of Biology/Life Sciences in grades 7th-12th at partner schools in Santa Ana, Montebello and Westside of Newport-Mesa Unified School Districts. Participating graduate students (GK-12 fellows) will improve communication, teaching and team-building skills as they act as partners and mentors to support and serve as resources for teachers to enrich learning for K-12 students in minority-serving schools.

McGaugh Hall Display Case Design Challenge Winners

CCBS is pleased to announce the winners of the McGaugh Hall Display Case Design challenge. Congratulations to Albert Farre, and to the team of Vesna Memisevic and Tijana Milenkovic, for the two winning proposals. $400 will be awarded per team towards educational and lab expenses of their choice. Thank you to all the design teams who submitted entries for this competition.
