TOPIC: The National Science Foundation is inviting grant applications for fundamental research in biomechanics and mechanobiology. The program emphasizes multiscale solid and fluid mechanics approaches in the study of organisms that integrate across molecular, cell, tissue and organ domains. The relationships between mechanical behavior and extracellular matrix composition and organization are of interest. A primary concern is the influence of in vivo mechanical forces on cell and matrix biology in the histomorphogenesis, maintenance, regeneration, and aging of those tissues. Projects may include theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches.

 

DEADLINE: The full proposal window is January 15 to February 15. 
FUNDS: Recent awards have ranged from $10,500 to $607,000.
ELIGIBILITY: NSF welcomes proposals on behalf of all qualified 
scientists, engineers and educators.

 

Operations Research (NSF)

TOPIC: The National Science Foundation is inviting grant applications for fundamental research leading to the creation of innovative mathematical models, analysis, and algorithms for optimal or near optimal decision-making, applicable to the design and operation of manufacturing, service, and other complex systems. In addition to the traditional areas of Operations Research which includes discrete and continuous optimization as well as stochastic modeling and analysis, new research thrusts include simulation optimization and self-optimizing systems that can observe, learn, and adapt to changing environments.

Dynamical Systems (NSF)

2010-1134 Dynamical Systems (NSF)

TOPIC: The National Science Foundation is inviting grant applications for innovative research on the theories of dynamical systems, including new analytical and computational tools, as well as the novel application of dynamical systems to engineered systems. The program is especially interested in transformative research in the area of complex systems, uncertain or stochastic nonlinear dynamical systems, model order reduction of nonlinear or infinite dimensional dynamical systems, discrete nonlinear dynamical systems, and modeling, simulation, analysis and design of multi-scale multi-physics dynamical systems.

UC Multi-campus Research Opportunity Funds

FACULTY RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

2010-1133 Multi-campus Research Opportunity Funds (UCOP)

TOPIC: UCOP's Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS) is inviting applications for a limited pool of Research Opportunity  Funds, available to support one-time funding requests to initiate  multi-campus research programs. Funding is for small projects that are intended to spawn larger, long-term programs, supported by external funding, that will increase UC's competitiveness, advance research  discoveries, impact the lives of Californians, inform public policy or  support innovative graduate student research.

DEADLINE: Unspecified. 
FUNDS: Awards offer up to $20,000. 
ELIGIBILITY: Funding requests must have a UCOP sponsor, who will take 
responsibility for the award and work with the awardees to produce a
